Tashkent Metro to Limit Train Speeds on Elevated Lines Due to Extreme Heat

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Starting 15 July 2026, the Tashkent Metro will introduce temporary speed restrictions on its elevated lines due to abnormally hot weather and rail temperatures rising above permissible levels.

According to metro officials, the decision was made to ensure passenger and operational safety. In accordance with current safety guidelines, if the temperature of the steel rails exceeds the standard limit of 55°C, train speeds on the elevated sections will be reduced from 60 km/h to 40 km/h daily until 6:00 PM.

These temporary restrictions are expected to partially affect headway intervals. The metro administration warned that waiting times on the affected lines could increase to up to 14 minutes.

Metro officials emphasized that the restrictions apply exclusively to trains operating on the elevated lines and will not affect services on the underground portions of the transit network.
