SGB Blocks Attempt to Smuggle Opium Into Uzbekistan Via Drone

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — In the Surkhandarya region, officers of the State Security Service, together with border troops and internal affairs bodies, blocked an attempt to illegally import narcotics into Uzbekistan using an unmanned aerial vehicle, the press service of the State Security Service reported.

According to the agency, an operational event established that citizens of Afghanistan attempted to transport narcotics across the Amu Darya River using a drone.

The suspects were detained as a result of the operation. Officials seized 2 kg 32 g of opium, which was attached to the unmanned aerial vehicle.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. Investigatory actions are currently underway.
