Uzbekistan and Russia Discuss Migrants’ Rights and Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Russia discussed the protection of Uzbek citizens’ rights in Russia and further cooperation in the migration sector at a working meeting in Moscow on 28 August, Uzbekistan’s Dunyo news agency reported.

The meeting was attended by Russian First Deputy Interior Minister Andrei Kikot, Deputy Prosecutor General Pyotr Gorodov and representatives of Russia’s Foreign Ministry.

The Uzbek delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Olimjon Abdullayev and included Migration Agency Director Behzod Musayev, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Russia Botirjon Asadov, Consul General Mehriddin Khayriddinov and embassy adviser Bahodir Nazarov.

One of the main topics was the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens residing in Russia. The sides discussed timely notification of the Uzbek side about cases involving the detention of Uzbek citizens, observance of their rights during migration-related measures and prompt coordination on emerging issues.

Particular attention was paid to the Register of Controlled Persons and options for resolving the legal status of certain vulnerable categories of citizens.

The participants also discussed the organized employment of Uzbek citizens in Russia, including their professional and pre-departure training and improvements to migration procedures.

Following the talks, the sides agreed to continue substantive cooperation to safeguard the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens and further develop bilateral cooperation in the migration sector.
