Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Uzbekistan’s Oliy Darajali Dostlik Order at a ceremony held at the Kuksaroy residence. The state award recognizes his contribution to strengthening longstanding ties of friendship between the peoples of Uzbekistan and India, the Uzbek presidential press service said.

During the ceremony, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted Modi’s role in India’s development and in strengthening the country’s standing on the international stage. According to the Uzbek president, India’s rapid development in recent years has been linked to the effective work of its leadership and the implementation of successful programmes and strategies that have delivered achievements in various fields.

Presenting the award, Mirziyoyev said the decision to honor Modi reflected the deep respect of the Uzbek state and people for the Indian prime minister’s contribution to strengthening the historical bonds of friendship between the two peoples.

The award ceremony took place as part of Modi’s state visit to Uzbekistan. Following the visit and talks between the two sides, Uzbekistan and India agreed to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The ceremony also noted that joint efforts have brought Uzbekistan-India cooperation in political and diplomatic affairs, trade and the economy, investment, transport, and cultural and humanitarian ties to a new qualitative level.

The Uzbek president expressed confidence that the presentation of the high state award would contribute to the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the peoples of the two countries.

“I am convinced that through our shared aspirations and efforts, our multifaceted and long-term relations will continue to develop dynamically,” Mirziyoyev said.
