Uzbekistan and US Discuss Strategic Partnership in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation from the US House of Representatives comprising Congressmen Jason Smith, Greg Murphy, Ronny Jackson, and Edward Case, according to the Uzbek presidential press service. The sides discussed strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership, developing trade and economic ties, and expanding interparliamentary interaction.
At the start of the meeting, the US lawmakers congratulated the President and the people of Uzbekistan on the upcoming 35th anniversary of the country's independence.
The participants highlighted the positive dynamics of bilateral relations, the high level of political dialogue, and the intensification of mutual contacts and visits. It was noted that during a recent telephone conversation, the leaders of the two countries defined priority areas for further expanding the strategic partnership.
Trade and economic cooperation received particular emphasis during the talks. Bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and the United States has increased by 20 percent since the beginning of 2026. The sides also discussed the implementation of a three-year Economic Cooperation Program, which includes launching major joint projects in energy, critical minerals, transport, agriculture, digital technologies, and manufacturing.
During the negotiations, the role of the US Congress in supporting reforms in Uzbekistan and fostering constructive dialogue between the two nations was emphasized. Special attention was also paid to interregional cooperation, with Uzbekistan expressing readiness to develop direct ties and joint initiatives with the US states represented by the delegation members: Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, and Hawaii.
President Mirziyoyev and the US congressmen exchanged views on key issues on the regional and international agendas. Following the meeting, the sides agreed to organize reciprocal visits of business missions to further expand economic cooperation.
