Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov held talks with Andreas Stöckli, a member of the board of directors of German company Rhenus SE & Co., to discuss expanding cooperation in transport logistics, modernising cargo terminals and improving the efficiency of international freight transport.

The meeting also focused on the operations of UzContargo, a joint venture established by O‘ztemiryo‘lkonteyner JSC and the Rhenus Group.

The participants discussed the possibility of accelerating the reconstruction of a cargo terminal in Andijan and establishing “green corridors” to reduce freight delivery times to Uzbekistan.

Makhkamov also briefed Stöckli on progress in implementing the strategic China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.

According to Makhkamov, developing modern logistics infrastructure in Andijan would enhance the attractiveness and transit potential of the new international transport corridor.

Stöckli, in turn, expressed Rhenus’s interest in further participation in projects to develop cargo terminals in the Tashkent region, Samarkand and Termez.

He also highlighted Uzbekistan’s potential to become a regional transport and logistics hub.

Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their intention to continue practical cooperation and work jointly on prospective projects in the transport and logistics sector.
