Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safayev held a meeting with Son Sok Jun, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.

The talks focused on further strengthening interparliamentary ties and developing the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea.

The sides noted the consistent development of bilateral relations based on mutual trust, respect and long-term strategic partnership. They emphasized that regular political dialogue and active interaction between the legislative bodies of the two countries play an important role in this process.

The sides also discussed expanding cooperation between relevant parliamentary committees and interparliamentary groups. Participants highlighted the need for broader exchanges of legislative experience in regulating new and emerging industries.

A significant part of the talks focused on the regional dimension of cooperation. Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea expressed interest in developing direct ties between regions of the two countries.

In particular, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation in smart cities, the digitalization of local governance, infrastructure, as well as support for and development of small and medium-sized businesses.
