Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Modernize Shared Border Infrastructure

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The heads of the customs services of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan inspected the ongoing modernization at the Gishtkuprik and Zhibek Zholy border checkpoints. Both facilities are planned to be commissioned simultaneously in the autumn of this year.

Gayrat Nasirov, First Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, and Zhandos Duisembiev, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan, visited the fully reconstructed Gishtkuprik customs post on the Uzbek-Kazakh border.

The modernization is being carried out as part of reforms initiated by the President of Uzbekistan, aimed at bringing border infrastructure in line with modern requirements, increasing throughput capacity, and reducing human-factor bias. The Gishtkuprik customs post has been completely rebuilt.

The new intelligent customs complex is equipped with modern information and communication technologies, automated control systems, high-precision scanning installations, and risk analysis mechanisms. This allows for improved efficiency in checking citizens, vehicles, and goods crossing the state border.

During the visit, representatives of the two countries also familiarized themselves with the construction of the new Zhibek Zholy customs post on Kazakh territory.

The parties emphasized the importance of further developing practical cooperation between the customs services of the two states, expanding the exchange of information on goods and vehicles moved across the border, and implementing joint projects to introduce modern information technologies.

According to the participants of the meeting, commissioning the updated checkpoints will accelerate trade and logistics processes between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, while improving comfort and speed for citizens crossing the state border.
