Uzbekistan and Interpol discuss stronger cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant General Aziz Tashpulatov, met with Interpol Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza in Bishkek on the sidelines of the Meeting of Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states.

During the talks, the sides discussed the development of international cooperation in law enforcement and strengthening interaction between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Interpol in combating transnational organised crime.

Particular attention was given to the exchange of operationally significant information and coordination of international efforts to locate wanted criminals. The participants stressed that modern threats require closer cooperation among law enforcement agencies from different countries and broader international engagement.

The head of the Uzbek delegation noted that cooperation with Interpol is one of the priority areas of the international activities of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and plays an important role in improving the effectiveness of efforts against cross-border crime.

For his part, Valdecy Urquiza confirmed his readiness to further develop the partnership, highlighting the importance of strengthening international cooperation mechanisms among Interpol’s National Central Bureaus.

Following the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding cooperation aimed at strengthening public security, protecting citizens’ rights and improving the effectiveness of international efforts to combat crime.
