Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Bukhara Region and Italy's Tuscany Region have signed a Joint Declaration on the Development of Cooperation and Friendly Relations.

The document was signed following a meeting between Bukhara Region Governor Botir Zaripov and a Tuscan delegation led by regional President Eugenio Giani, the press service of the Bukhara regional administration said.

The talks noted that the current stage of cooperation builds on agreements reached in Florence in March this year during a meeting between Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Italy, Abat Fayzullayev, and Giani. At that meeting, the sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation between Bukhara Region and Tuscany in the fields of the economy, investment, trade and culture.

Zaripov said Bukhara and Tuscany share a rich historical heritage, cultural traditions, developed handicrafts and strong tourism potential. He described Tuscany as an important partner in developing cooperation in tourism, culture, industrial cooperation, the textile and leather industries, agricultural processing, education, healthcare and modern technologies.

The governor also recalled an agreement reached in April to establish partnership relations between Bukhara and the Italian city of Siena. He said the Uzbek side was ready to develop practical projects in culture, tourism, education and urban development under that partnership.

The participants also discussed an initiative by the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation to install a bust of Michelangelo in Bukhara. The sides said the project could become a symbol of cultural dialogue between Bukhara Region and Tuscany.

During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for implementing joint projects aimed at expanding economic, investment, trade and cultural cooperation. Giani reaffirmed Tuscany's interest in strengthening the partnership and exchanging best practices.

The signed declaration is intended to serve as a foundation for further interregional cooperation, stronger business ties, and expanded cultural and humanitarian relations between Bukhara Region and Tuscany.
