Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) have reviewed the results of joint environmental projects and identified potential areas for further cooperation on sustainable agricultural development.

A meeting between Nuriddin Koshnazarov, adviser to Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture, and representatives of the GEF's Independent Evaluation Office, Ksenia Temnenko and Martin Prouse, focused on assessing the effectiveness of initiatives implemented with the fund’s support.

The participants reviewed progress on the CACILM-2, FOLUR, LDN and CAWLN projects. These programmes address the sustainable use of land resources, prevention of soil degradation, landscape restoration and adaptation of agriculture to climate change.

They also discussed approaches to improving land and water resource management, introducing advanced practices and implementing innovative solutions.

Particular attention was given to the prospects for developing new joint projects and expanding cooperation.

The discussions also covered findings and recommendations to be prepared following an independent evaluation of the fund’s activities in Uzbekistan.

The evaluation results are expected to help incorporate the findings into the development of future initiatives, improve project implementation and enhance the effectiveness of programmes aimed at promoting sustainable development in the country's agricultural sector.
