Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have discussed the privatisation of state-owned enterprises and banks, expanding financing for small and medium-sized businesses, and developing public-private partnerships.

These issues were addressed on 15 October 2026 in Bangkok at a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kuchkarov, and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, according to the Information Service and Communications Department of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Participants also included Greg Guyett, EBRD First Vice President, Matteo Patrone, the bank’s Vice President, Nodirbek Ochilov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, Jasur Karshibaev, an adviser to the Minister of Economy and Finance, and other representatives.

The parties reviewed Uzbekistan’s macroeconomic trends, progress on economic reforms and priorities for further cooperation.

Particular attention was given to the transformation and privatisation of state-owned enterprises and banks, as well as the institutional changes required to support these processes.

The participants explored ways to improve support mechanisms for small and medium-sized businesses and expand their access to financing.

They also exchanged views on financial support for the mortgage market and the development of public-private partnership mechanisms.

Expanding cooperation in the energy and transport sectors was also on the agenda.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to develop mutually beneficial cooperation and continue exchanging views on the areas discussed.

The ministry’s statement did not specify any new projects, financing amounts or implementation timelines.
