Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan plans to increase the installed capacity of wind power plants to more than 10 GW by 2030, which could strengthen wind energy’s role in the country’s renewable energy mix, the Energy Ministry said.
One of the advantages of wind power plants in Uzbekistan is their potentially longer operating time at full capacity compared with solar power plants.
On average, wind power plants can operate at full capacity for around 3,200 hours per year, while the figure for solar power plants is about 2,300 hours.
At the same installed capacity of 1 MW, a wind power plant could therefore potentially generate about 1.4 times more electricity annually than a solar power plant.
The combination of high annual generation potential and the commissioning of new wind power capacity is expected to strengthen wind energy’s position among Uzbekistan’s renewable energy sources.
The development of wind power is also considered one of the factors contributing to the diversification of the country’s electricity generation mix.
