Uzbekistan and DOHWA Engineering to Outline Spatial Development for Four Regions
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Norkulov, held a meeting with representatives from the South Korean company DOHWA Engineering Co., Ltd., which has been brought on board to implement the World Bank-backed "Medium-Size Cities Integrated Urban Development Project."
During the discussions, the parties focused on preparing spatial development strategies for the Bukhara, Navoi, Jizzakh, and Syrdarya regions. They also outlined the formulation of comprehensive spatial plans for several key districts, including Gijduvan, Shafirkan, Khatirchi, Nurata, Zafarabad, Gallyaaral, Sardoba, and Syrdarya.
Furthermore, the initiative will involve creating detailed master plans for specific localized territories that are yet to be designated within these target districts.
A major focal point of the meeting was the strategic creation and expansion of regional "growth centers." This encompasses long-term planning for district and municipal hubs, residential neighborhoods, and industrial zones, alongside specialized clusters dedicated to business, tourism, retail, services, and logistics.
Participants also reviewed methods to optimize transport and economic corridors, ensuring that the necessary social and engineering infrastructure is established to sustain long-term regional development.
Representatives from DOHWA Engineering announced that throughout July and August of this year, company specialists will conduct field visits to host public consultations, meeting directly with local residents, business owners, and regional authorities in the project areas.
Following this groundwork, the company will deliver preliminary socio-economic development proposals tailored to these territories, leveraging international best practices and contemporary spatial planning techniques.
