Uzbek Students Invited to Global Icebreaker Science Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 May 2026, the international selection process began for the seventh scientific and educational project “Icebreaker of Knowledge” organized by Rosatom. Schoolchildren aged 14 to 16 from 23 countries, including Uzbekistan, are invited to participate.

Winners of the national stage will have the opportunity to join an Arctic expedition to the North Pole aboard the nuclear icebreaker “50 Years of Victory,” scheduled for August 2026. For some participants, the journey will mark the first visit to the North Pole in their country’s history.

The international selection process will take place in three stages. In the first stage, registered students on the platform goarctic.energy will complete a science quiz. Participants will then take part in a series of educational webinars dedicated to advanced technological solutions developed by Rosatom, including safe Arctic navigation technologies.

After the first two stages, the best participants from each country will present their own ideas in the form of a video presentation. Finalists with the highest scores will be selected to join the international scientific expedition.

According to Alexandra Yustus, Deputy Director General for Communications at Rosatom International Network, the project is being implemented internationally for the third time and aims to promote science, technology, and Arctic research among young people.

“Over ten days, students will explore the Arctic together with leading experts, science communicators, and bloggers. The expedition will broaden their horizons, provide unique international experience, and introduce them to modern technologies,” she said.

In 2025, Uzbekistan was represented in the project by a student from Tashkent, Alina Chembayeva, who spent nine days aboard a nuclear icebreaker and visited the North Pole. She said the expedition changed her perspective on ecology, scientific progress, and the importance of modern technology.

The “Icebreaker of Knowledge” project aims to foster youth interest in science, research, engineering disciplines, and sustainable development issues.
