Uzbek Court Bans "Samsyng" Counterfeit Electronics Sales

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A company attempted to import electronics into Uzbekistan under the brand name "Samsyng" — close enough to Samsung to deceive consumers — and a Tashkent court has now shut it down.

The Uzbekistan Ministry of Justice confirmed that an unnamed company sought to bring electronic products into the country bearing the "Samsyng" mark, which the court found confusingly similar to Samsung's registered trademark.

Samsung's rights holder filed suit, and on June 4, 2026, the court ruled the company's actions constituted a violation of intellectual property rights. The ruling prohibits the sale of all imported products carrying the counterfeit marking and obliges the defendant to cover legal costs.

The Ministry of Justice used the ruling as a public reminder to Uzbek entrepreneurs of their obligation to register their own brands through proper legal channels, and called on businesses and the public to report instances of unlawful trademark use to authorities.

The case is among the more brazen trademark infringement attempts to reach Uzbek courts — the "Samsyng" brand differing from the global electronics giant's name by a single transposed letter.
