Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent Region and South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province have agreed to expand cooperation in healthcare. During an Uzbek delegation’s visit to Gyeonggi, three memorandums of cooperation were signed between the regional health department and leading medical institutions in the province.
The delegation, led by Otabek Sultonbekov, deputy governor of Tashkent Region, visited Gyeonggi from 7 to 11 September. During the visit, Uzbek healthcare representatives studied the experience of modern medical institutions and discussed prospective areas of cooperation.
The delegation visited St. Vincent’s Hospital, Korea University Ansan Hospital, Siwha Medical Center and centers specializing in the production of medical equipment.
The areas studied included artificial intelligence and smart medicine, robotic oncology, modern diagnostics, treatment of cardiovascular diseases, medical technologies and specialist training.
The concept of the Nurafshon medical cluster in Tashkent Region was presented at the Gyeonggi-Uzbekistan Business Forum. Participants also discussed prospects for cooperation with South Korean medical equipment manufacturers.
During the “Gyeonggi — Prospects for Medicine in Uzbekistan” forum, the Tashkent Regional Health Department and leading medical institutions in Gyeonggi signed three memorandums on mutual cooperation.
The agreements provide for practical assistance in organizing the operations of the Multidisciplinary Medical Center in Nurafshon. They also envisage expanding free professional development programmes for Uzbek specialists at leading medical institutions in Gyeonggi in neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, neonatal surgery, transplantation, vascular surgery, spinal and joint prosthetics, and oncology.
The sides also agreed to hold visiting training courses for mid-level medical staff in Tashkent Region with the participation of South Korean specialists.
In addition, a scientific and practical conference involving professors from leading medical institutions in Gyeonggi is planned to be held in the region in 2027.
