Tashkent Region Discusses Projects with FAO in Italy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region, led by regional governor Zoir Mirzaev, visited the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Italy during a working trip, where they met with First Deputy Director-General Maurizio Martina.
According to participants in the talks, the meeting took place in an atmosphere of open dialogue and mutual understanding.
The two sides emphasized the steady development of relations between Uzbekistan and Italy, including in the trade, economic, and agricultural sectors.
Zoir Mirzaev noted that agricultural modernization, ensuring food security, and introducing resource-saving approaches remain key priorities of state policy in Uzbekistan and in the Tashkent region in particular.
During the talks, special attention was given to the introduction of water-saving technologies, the development of agricultural solutions adapted to climate change, and the exchange of experience in veterinary and phytosanitary fields. The discussions also covered training programs for farmers and agricultural specialists.
The parties considered prospects for cooperation in the development of intensive agriculture, improvement of agricultural logistics systems, and deep processing of agricultural products.
It was separately noted that FAO is one of the key international partners in agricultural reform and sustainable development. In 2025, Uzbekistan was unanimously elected for the first time to the governing bodies of the organization.
Following the meeting, both sides expressed interest in implementing pilot projects and innovative programs in the Tashkent region in cooperation with FAO, as well as in introducing international expertise into the region’s agricultural sector.
