Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Air quality in Tashkent is expected to improve slightly on the morning of 29 October, with pollution levels forecast to fall to the category “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
According to the Special Commission, air quality in the capital was rated “unhealthy” under the international Air Quality Index (AQI) throughout the day on 28 October.
Under Uzbekistan’s national air quality index, the level was yellow overnight and orange during the day.
The commission attributed the situation to a drop in overnight temperatures to 9.5°C, a strong temperature inversion, dry weather and the accumulation of air masses over the capital and neighbouring regions. Light winds also contributed to the build-up of local atmospheric emissions.
Similar conditions often occur in autumn and winter when precipitation is limited.
According to the forecast, air quality was expected to remain at the “unhealthy” level under the international AQI during the evening and night of 28 October.
