Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A 30-year-old suspect, Akmal Shukurov, has been detained in Kazakhstan in connection with a violent altercation near The Tower Hotel in Tashkent, the capital’s Main Department of Internal Affairs (GUVD) reported.

Shukurov faces charges under two articles of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code: Article 104 (“Intentional Infliction of Serious Bodily Harm”) and Article 277 (“Hooliganism”). Authorities have ordered his arrest, and he is set to be extradited to Tashkent in the near future.

Earlier reports indicated that on the night of March 16, a dispute between two men broke out near The Tower Hotel in the Yakkasaray district of Tashkent. A third individual, who attempted to intervene and break up the fight, was struck multiple times in the head, lost consciousness, and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Doctors performed emergency surgery, after which the victim was placed in an induced coma. His condition remains critical.
