Surkhandarya Region Restricts Heavy Truck Movement Due to Heat

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Temporary restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles have been introduced in the Surkhandarya Region due to abnormally high air temperatures, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan announced.

The ministry explained that the measure is aimed at preserving the road surface and preventing its premature destruction under extreme heat conditions.

According to the ministry, daytime air temperatures in the region currently reach 42 to 44 degrees Celsius, and rise even higher in some areas. Under such weather conditions, the temperature of the asphalt concrete pavement can reach 70 to 80 degrees Celsius, which leads to a reduction in its load-bearing capacity.

As a result, the movement of heavy transport can cause rutting, deformation of the road surface, and other technical damage.

Consequently, the movement of heavy-duty vehicles on public roads connecting the city of Termez with the district centers of the Surkhandarya Region is restricted daily from 10:00 to 19:00.

The Ministry of Transport called on truck drivers, as well as enterprises and organizations engaged in freight transportation, to comply with the introduced restrictions and to plan their routes and cargo delivery times in advance, taking into account the established traffic schedule.

The ministry noted that such restrictions are applied during periods of extremely high temperatures to protect road infrastructure and extend the service life of highways.
