Senate returns law on pharmaceutical activity for revision
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of the Oliy Majlis, during its 17th plenary session, reviewed the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of Pharmaceutical Activity" and adopted a resolution on the necessity of its revision.
The document provides for amendments to the legislation aimed at expanding the production capacities of domestic pharmaceutical enterprises, introducing technology transfers into the industry, and utilizing biotechnological products created on the basis of cell technologies in medical practice.
The law also proposes a change in the approach to the state registration of medical products. Specifically, instead of maintaining separate categories for "medical equipment" and "medical devices," the law introduces a single, generalized concept of "medical equipment". This change was noted as an effort to eliminate existing problems during the registration process for such products.
During the discussion, senators pointed out a number of provisions that require additional refinement. Particular attention was paid to a regulation that would allow the retail sale of medicines through automated pharmacy complexes.
According to the session participants, this specific regulation must be reconsidered from the perspective of protecting public health and guaranteeing the quality of the medicines sold. Following the debate, the Senate passed a resolution stating that the law must be sent back for further development.
