SOCAR and Uzbekneftegaz Expand Ustyurt Exploration

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A joint project between Uzbekneftegaz and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR in the Ustyurt region reflects a new stage of energy cooperation between the two countries, SOCAR Vice President Arzu Javadova said, commenting on the progress of geological exploration work.

She said large-scale field studies are underway in Karakalpakstan, including an extensive seismic data acquisition campaign. According to her, the project is one of the largest seismic exploration initiatives currently being implemented in Uzbekistan.

Javadova noted that modern technological solutions are being applied in the work, including a transition from traditional cable-based systems to 3D seismic exploration technology.

This approach, she said, reduces the duration of field operations without compromising data quality and provides higher density and accuracy of geological measurements.

The implementation of such projects is seen as an important element in strengthening energy cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, as well as a tool for improving the efficiency of hydrocarbon exploration in the region.
