Senate approves Sayyora Rashidova as Ombudsman

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Upper house of parliament of Uzbekistan elected Sayyora Rashidova to the post of Ombudsman on Friday, 7 May 2010.

Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the candidacy of Sayyora Rashidova to the post of the Human Rights Commissioner for the fourth term.

As earlier reported, the lower house of parliament adopted a resolution on election of Sayyor Rashidova to the post of the Human Rights Commissioner on 3 May.

In line with the legislation of Uzbekistan, President of Uzbekistan submits candidacy to the post of the Ombudsman to the parliament. Ombudsman is elected for five years.

Sayyora Rashidova has been working as the Ombudsman since 1995. She was elected to the post of Ombudsman three times.
