Malaysian Delegation Visits Historic Sites in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Malaysia led by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Haji Muhammad bin Sabu visited several historical and spiritual sites in the Samarkand region during an official trip to Uzbekistan.
The main focus of the visit was the memorial complex of Imam al-Bukhari. The delegation members toured the mausoleum of the renowned hadith scholar, museum exhibitions, and ongoing development and infrastructure improvement works at the site. They were also introduced to the scholar’s scientific and spiritual legacy.
The head of the delegation highlighted the significance of Imam al-Bukhari’s legacy for the entire Muslim world, noting his role in the spread of Islamic scholarship, education, and culture. He also emphasized the historical importance of Central Asia as a region that produced outstanding scholars and thinkers.
During the visit, the delegation also toured the Shah-i-Zinda architectural complex, where they learned about its architectural features and centuries-old history. Uzbek representatives informed the guests about ongoing efforts to preserve and restore cultural heritage sites for future generations.
In addition, the Malaysian delegation visited Registan Square in Samarkand, including the Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor, and Tilla-Kari madrasahs, and was briefed on the city’s role in the history of the Silk Road.
At the end of the visit, Malaysian representatives highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s efforts to preserve and promote historical and cultural heritage, noting its significance not only for the country but also for the broader Islamic world and global civilization.
