Uzbekistan Expands Cultural Heritage Agency's Powers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A new law aimed at improving the system of public administration in the field of cultural heritage has entered into force in Uzbekistan.

The legislation introduces amendments to several legal acts, clarifying the powers of national executive authorities responsible for the protection and use of cultural heritage sites.

Law No. ZRU-1160, dated 23 July 2026, grants additional powers to the Cultural Heritage Agency.

In particular, the agency has been authorized to exercise state oversight over compliance with legislation governing the protection and use of tangible cultural heritage sites.

The agency will also participate in the development and implementation of state programs for the protection, preservation, promotion and use of tangible cultural heritage sites. In addition, it will be responsible for identifying, registering, protecting, promoting and facilitating the use of such sites, as well as organizing and conducting historical and cultural assessments of relevant heritage objects.

The law entered into force on the date of its official publication.
