Rakhimova Beats Krejcikova to Reach US Open Second Round

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Kamilla Rakhimova advanced to the second round of the US Open after defeating Czech player Barbora Krejcikova 7-6, 6-2 in the opening round.

Krejcikova was ranked 27th in the WTA rankings at the tournament, while Rakhimova was ranked 88th.

The first set was closely contested and went to a tiebreak, which Rakhimova won 7-4 to take the lead.

The Uzbek player then took control in the second set and completed the match with a 6-2 victory. The match lasted 1 hour and 53 minutes.

It was Rakhimova’s first victory over Krejcikova in their two WTA meetings. The win also marked her third consecutive appearance in the second round of a Grand Slam tournament.

In the second round, Rakhimova will face the winner of the match between Japan’s Aoi Ito and Spain’s Oksana Selekhmeteva. Their match is scheduled for 31 August.

Another Uzbek player, Maria Timofeeva, will also continue her campaign at the tournament on Monday, 31 August. She will face Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek in the second round of play.
