Uzbekistan Wins Gold and Silver at Lausanne Grand Slam

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan won gold and silver at the Lausanne Grand Slam after Nurbek Murtozoev and Umar Bozorov contested an all-Uzbek final in the men’s 90 kg category. Both judokas delivered strong performances throughout the tournament, securing two medals for Uzbekistan. The results are reported by the International Judo Federation (IJF) on its official website.

Murtozoev entered the Lausanne tournament ranked 20th in the world. In 2025, he won silver at the Asian Championships and bronze at the Tashkent Grand Slam. A former competitor in the 81 kg category, he is also a silver medallist at the 2023 FISU World University Games. The Lausanne final was the first Grand Slam final of his career.

Bozorov was ranked 23rd in the world before the competition. He won the Tbilisi Grand Slam in 2025 and later claimed silver at the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam.

The final between the two Uzbek national team teammates, who know each other well, remained evenly contested for much of the bout. Bozorov then launched a counterattack and cleanly threw Murtozoev onto his back, earning an ippon and the gold medal.

“I am very happy to have won my second Grand Slam title, and I would like to express my deep gratitude to all my coaches and everyone who supports me. The World Championships in Baku are coming next month. We will do everything we can to win and have the Uzbek national anthem played in honour of our country. The arena and atmosphere here in Lausanne were truly amazing. Many thanks to all the fans,” Bozorov said.

Earlier on the same day, Ernazar Sarsenbayev won a bronze medal in the 100 kg category after defeating Japan’s Tetta Hamada.

Uzbekistan finished the tournament with five medals: one gold, two silver and two bronze.
