Nurmatov, Safarliyev Win Historic World Rowing Gold

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Shahzod Nurmatov and Sobir Safarliyev won gold at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, becoming the first senior world champions in the sport in Uzbekistan’s history, the Uzbekistan national team said.

The Uzbek athletes won the lightweight LM2x double sculls event. Their gold medals marked the first victory by representatives of Uzbekistan at the senior World Rowing Championships.

Athletes from Germany won silver in the event, while representatives of the United States took bronze.
