Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The number of general secondary education institutions in Uzbekistan reached 11,118 at the start of the 2025/2026 academic year, marking a 1.3-fold increase compared to the 1991/1992 school year, according to data from the National Statistics Committee.

In the 1991/1992 academic year, the country had 8,557 general secondary schools. That figure rose to 9,289 by the 1995/1996 school year and reached 9,726 in 2000/2001.

The growth continued modestly in subsequent years, with 9,803 schools recorded in 2005/2006 and 9,806 in 2010/2011, before dropping slightly to 9,720 in the 2015/2016 academic year.

The metric returned to upward growth thereafter. Statistics show the total increased to 10,181 institutions in 2020/2021 and 10,289 in 2021/2022.

In recent years, the system expanded to 10,522 schools in 2022/2023, 10,750 in 2023/2024, and 10,943 in 2024/2025, reaching the current figure of 11,118 at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year.

Overall, the total number of general secondary education organizations in Uzbekistan has grown from 8,557 to 11,118 between the 1991/1992 and 2025/2026 academic years.
