Uzbekistan Specialists Complete Land and Water Training in Jordan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation from Uzbekistan participated in a regional professional development program on ecosystem services assessment, rainwater harvesting, and land restoration monitoring held in Jordan from 26 July to 3 August, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

The training took place as part of a regional workshop titled "Assessment of Ecosystem Services, Rainwater Harvesting, and Monitoring Land Restoration" and the "From Rain to Restoration" field academy, organized by the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).

The program was implemented under the Food Systems, Land Use and Restoration Impact Program in Uzbekistan (FOLUR) project, which is carried out by the Project Office of the Agriculture and Food Project Center in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Representatives from the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture, the Project Office, relevant research institutes, and FAO attended the events organized by ICARDA alongside Jordan's National Agricultural Research Center (NARC).

During the program, participants reviewed modern methods for assessing ecosystem services, technologies for harvesting and efficiently using rainwater, the restoration of degraded lands and pastures, natural resource monitoring, treated wastewater reuse, and the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus concept.

In addition to theoretical sessions, the program included practical field exercises and demonstrations of innovative technologies.

The Ministry of Agriculture noted that the acquired knowledge and practical experience are planned for use in introducing modern approaches in Uzbekistan for sustainable land and water resource management, land degradation prevention, efficient rainwater use, and agricultural adaptation to climate change.
