Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement authorities in Uzbekistan's Bukhara Region detained a man suspected of fraudulently promising to arrange admission to a medical program at a higher education institution. The Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office reported.

According to the department, officers from its Karakul District Department, together with other law enforcement agencies, conducted an operation during which a man identified as Kh.T. was detained.

Investigators believe the suspect gained the trust of a citizen identified as D.O. and promised to prepare forged documents allegedly showing that the applicant had studied in the first through third years at a university in Kazakhstan. The suspect then allegedly planned to use contacts in senior positions to arrange the applicant's admission directly to the fourth year of a medical program at Bukhara Innovation University of Education and Medicine.

The suspect was detained while receiving 26 million soums. The money was seized as evidence.

A criminal case was opened under Articles 25 and 168, as well as Articles 28 and 211 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Investigative proceedings are ongoing.
