Namangan Region Attracts Billions in Energy Investments

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Electricity supply in the Namangan region has improved significantly in recent years amid the implementation of new energy projects, Regional Governor Shavkat Abdurazakov said on 25 August 2026 during a commissioning ceremony for new facilities attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the governor, a US$200 million energy storage system with a capacity of 200 MW is under construction in an area bordering Kyrgyzstan. In addition, projects to develop solar and other power generation are being implemented in the Namangan region.

Specifically, two 500 MW solar power plants are currently operating in the region. Power plants with a total capacity of approximately 300 MW are under construction in the Chust, Chartak, Naryn, and Uychi districts, while another 200 MW plant has been announced in the Pap district.

Abdurazakov stated in a broadcast on the Uzbekistan 24 television channel that residents in Namangan have ceased experiencing power outages.

During the 25 August 2026 ceremony, an energy storage system project in the Uychi district was presented. The EPC project involves installing a storage unit with a power rating of 100 MW and a capacity of 200 MWh. The system accumulates electricity during periods of low demand and releases it back into the grid during peak consumption by households and enterprises.

Additionally, the Kugay-1 and Kugay-2 small hydroelectric power plants, with capacities of 12 MW and 6 MW respectively, were commissioned on the Big Andijan Canal in the Uychkurgan and Naryn districts.

Beyond the energy sector, the region is increasing investment activity. Abdurazakov noted that attracted investments reached US$4 billion last year and US$3.2 billion in the first eight months of the current year. The target for the full year is set at US$5 billion.

As part of recent cooperation with Azerbaijan, implementation began on three projects in the Namangan region worth a combined US$210 million. In the current year, 12 trillion soums in investments are being utilized across all funding sources in the region.

Road infrastructure development is also continuing. Authorities plan to repair and upgrade 1,300 kilometers of internal roads this year. According to the governor, 6,400 kilometers of such roads have been paved in recent years. Abdurazakov stated that the region intends to fulfill its targets for poverty reduction and unemployment elimination by the end of the year.

For his part, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the economic changes and the emergence of new industries in the Namangan region over the past decade. On 25 August 2026, the head of state participated in a ceremony commissioning 72 major investment projects and 91 social facilities across the country worth a total of 50 trillion soums.
