Over 50,000 Workers Move to Navoi Region for Employment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — More than 50,000 people from other regions of Uzbekistan have moved to work in the Navoi region, Regional Governor Normat Tursunov announced on 25 August 2026 during a ceremony launching new facilities attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the head of the region, attracting workers from other parts of the country is part of ongoing efforts to reduce unemployment and boost public income. Tursunov noted that the region is implementing an income-enhancement system defined by the president, which includes recruiting labor from other territories. He linked the growing demand for personnel to economic development and the establishment of new production facilities in the Navoi region.

Addressing energy sector developments, Tursunov stated that a project to build a 300 MW solar power plant with a 150 MW energy storage system is near completion in the Nurota district. The facility is being implemented in cooperation with a Chinese company and is being prepared for commissioning. Total capacity for solar and wind energy projects currently being realized in the Navoi region has reached approximately 2 GW.

Furthermore, as part of industrial localization initiatives, the region has initiated the production of goods valued at 3 trillion soums.

Tursunov also reported on preparations to open four social infrastructure facilities, consisting of one school and three kindergartens. He noted that the region is pursuing the transition of schools to single-shift instruction, with the overall shift ratio having decreased to one.

During the ceremony, officials announced the launch of 72 major investment projects and 91 social sector facilities nationwide, valued at a combined 50 trillion soums.

Specific energy projects included the commissioning of 1,573 MW of generating capacity in the Sirdaryo region, along with a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW energy storage system in Karakalpakstan. Projects in the Navoi region are designated to generate 657 million kWh of electricity annually.

In the Namangan region, a US$200 million energy storage system with a capacity of 200 MW was presented. The region also operates two solar power plants with a capacity of 500 MW each. Hydroelectric projects totaling approximately 300 MW are underway in the Chust, Chartak, Naryn, and Uychi districts, with an additional 200 MW project announced in the Pap district.
