Mirziyoyev Reviews Karasu Canal Waterfront Development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the redevelopment of the Karasu Canal waterfront in the Urta Chirchik district during a visit to Tashkent Region.

According to officials, the development of waterfront areas and the creation of modern infrastructure are among the priorities of regional improvement efforts. Such projects are intended to provide residents with comfortable recreational spaces and support local economic development.

Construction of the Karasu Canal waterfront began last year. The project covers the redevelopment of a 9-kilometre stretch of the canal's shoreline and has a total cost of 32 billion soums.

The project is being implemented in two phases. During the first phase, a 1.6-kilometre section between the Tinchlik and Karasu mahallas was completed. The area now includes pedestrian walkways, a fountain, workout facilities, a water park and a tunnel beneath a bridge.

Decorative trees have also been planted, benches installed, and food service and commercial facilities built.

The second phase will create entertainment, recreation and gastronomic streets along the section of the canal passing through the Karasu, Rovotak and Fayzabad mahallas. Once completed, the number of retail and service facilities will increase to six, creating 150 new jobs.
