Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A roundtable discussion focused on the development of urbanization and the housing sector was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, featuring representatives from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

The event was attended by Katja Schaefer, UN-Habitat Inter-Regional Advisor for Eastern Europe, and Karolina Gulordava, an expert on housing policy and urban development.

The discussions were also joined by officials and specialists from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Central Bank, the National Agency for Social Protection, the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Economy, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, the Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Research, the Inspectorate for Control in the Sphere of Construction and Housing and Communal Economy, the Cadastre Agency, and the Republican Center for the Development of Urbanization and Town Planning Documents.

During the roundtable, participants were briefed on the preparations for a pilot project currently being implemented in Samarkand with the active support of UN-Habitat.

Primary attention was dedicated to the creation of affordable and energy-efficient housing funds amid rapid population growth and ongoing national economic reforms. The participants also deliberated on building modern infrastructure, ensuring social inclusivity, advancing integrated territorial development, and implementing the core principles of sustainable urban planning.

Following the meeting, it was emphasized that housing policy extends far beyond the construction of physical structures, serving as a critical tool for improving the overall quality of life and well-being of local families.

The participants highlighted that the dialogue would actively contribute to shaping effective solutions aimed at establishing a more comfortable, safe, inclusive, and resilient urban environment across the regions of Uzbekistan.
