Matvienko, Narbayeva discuss interparliamentary ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting between Chair of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva was held in Moscow, during which the sides discussed the development of interparliamentary cooperation and interaction on international platforms.
Valentina Matvienko thanked the Uzbek side for its participation in the session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and highly praised the work of Uzbek parliamentarians within the organization. She also emphasized the significance of the decision for Uzbekistan to join the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in 2018.
According to Matvienko, relations between Russia and Uzbekistan are characterized as a comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance. She separately noted the visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Moscow and his participation in events dedicated to May 9, as well as the attention shown by the Uzbek side to veterans and survivors of the Leningrad blockade.
The meeting also addressed the international humanitarian project “Train of Memory,” which is supported by Uzbekistan.
Tanzila Narbaeva, in turn, emphasized the importance of promoting historical memory among young people. She also spoke about the Second Asian Forum of Women held in Bukhara.
The sides discussed the development of cooperation between legislators of the two countries, including within the framework of the commission on cooperation between the upper houses of parliament, as well as the expansion of interregional ties.
Valentina Matvienko noted that more than 80 constituent entities of the Russian Federation cooperate with the regions of Uzbekistan.
