Manchester City Reach FA Cup Final Again
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Manchester City secured a 2–1 comeback victory over Southampton in the FA Cup semifinal held at Wembley Stadium, booking their place in the final of the competition for the fourth consecutive year, a record run in the modern era of the tournament.
The match proved challenging for Pep Guardiola’s side. Southampton broke the deadlock late in the game through a long-range strike by Finn Azaz, but their lead lasted only a short time. Manchester City quickly responded, equalizing through a goal by Jeremy Doku, whose shot deflected off defender James Bree before finding the net.
The decisive moment came in the closing stages when Nico González delivered a long-range effort that secured victory and a place in the final for Manchester City. The club has already won the League Cup this season, making the upcoming final their second major domestic title match of the campaign.
Their opponent in the final will be determined in the second semifinal between Chelsea and Leeds. The FA Cup final is scheduled for May 16.
The match at Wembley was tightly contested. Manchester City dominated possession and created multiple chances but struggled to convert them. Attempts from Phil Foden, Tijjani Reijnders and others failed to find the target, while some efforts were ruled out for offside.
Southampton also had opportunities, including a first-half goal that was disallowed after a refereeing intervention. Despite taking the lead, they were unable to hold on under sustained pressure.
Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov was included in Manchester City’s squad for the match but did not feature on the pitch.
