Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes Kyrgyzstan, felt in Uzbekistan's Andijan region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 occurred within the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic overnight on 8 July 2026, according to the Republican Center for Seismoprognotic Monitoring of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan.

The underground tremors were officially registered by seismic stations at 00:54:41 Tashkent time.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan, at the geographic coordinates of 41.19° North latitude and 72.69° East longitude. The seismic focus was shallow, originating at a depth of 5 kilometers. The distance from the epicenter to the capital city of Tashkent was estimated at 291 kilometers in a south-easterly direction.

Seismic vibrations were felt across several border districts within Uzbekistan's eastern Andijan region.

The strongest tremors, measuring between 2 and 3 points on the local intensity scale, were documented in the Pakhtaabad district, which was located approximately 33 kilometers from the earthquake's epicenter.

An intensity of 2 points was also reported in the Izboskan, Andijan, Kurgantepa, Khanabad, Jalakuduk, and Uchkorgan districts, as well as in the regional capital city of Andijan.

According to emergency response officials, no information regarding physical structural damages or human casualties has been received from the affected areas.
