Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan discussed potential joint petrochemical projects during an 18 August 2026 meeting in Tashkent, including plans to produce terephthalic acid, polyethylene terephthalate, and linear alkylbenzene in Karshi, the Kazakh Embassy in Uzbekistan said.

Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Uzbekistan Eraly Tugzhanov met with representatives from KMG PetroChem LLP, including Board Chairman Diaz Diyanov and New Projects Department Director Timur Seitbekov. The company representatives presented the current status of the proposed Kazakh-Uzbek petrochemical initiatives.

The discussions focused on securing raw materials for the projects, selecting manufacturing locations, and establishing reliable distribution channels. The parties also addressed ongoing coordination between KMG PetroChem and relevant Uzbek state bodies and enterprises.

Specific projects reviewed included facilities for the production of terephthalic acid and polyethylene terephthalate (PTA/PET), as well as a linear alkylbenzene (LAB) manufacturing project planned for the city of Karshi.

Participants evaluated broader prospects for industrial cooperation between the two nations within the petrochemical sector, targeting the development of joint production chains and increased output of high-value-added products.

Tugzhanov emphasized Kazakhstan's interest in advancing mutually beneficial joint initiatives and confirmed that the embassy remains ready to assist KMG PetroChem in its engagement with Uzbek partners.
