Kashkadarya Restricts Daytime Heavy Truck Traffic Due to Extreme Heat
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Hokimiyat of Kashkadarya Region has introduced temporary daytime traffic restrictions on heavy trucks due to extremely high air temperatures affecting the area.
The daily restrictions are in effect from 09:00 to 19:00 in Karshi, various district centers, and the public roads connecting them. Local authorities explained that the measure is aimed at preserving the structural integrity of the regional road network and preventing premature deterioration during the extreme heatwave.
According to Uzhydromet, an exceptionally hot air mass from the south is moving across Uzbekistan between 13 July and 17 July 2026. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach +41°C to +43°C generally, with northern, southern, and desert areas experiencing peaks of +44°C to +46°C.
Regional authorities noted that such extreme temperatures cause asphalt concrete pavements to heat up significantly, reducing their load-bearing capacity. Under the weight of heavy vehicles, softened asphalt is highly susceptible to rutting, permanent deformation, and other severe structural damage.
The Hokimiyat has urged drivers, as well as freight transport enterprises and organizations, to strictly observe the established restrictions and schedule their transport operations to align with the new daytime requirements.
Previously, similar preventive traffic measures were introduced in the neighboring Surkhandarya Region. In Surkhandarya, heavy trucks are prohibited from operating between 10:00 and 19:00 on roads within Termez, regional district centers, and their connecting public highways.
