Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan Railways announced the launch of an electric train service connecting Urgench International Airport to Khiva via the Urgench railway station in Khorezm region.

The new line operates a Chinese-manufactured CR200J electric train produced by CRRC Dalian. The six-carriage train is equipped with climate control, accommodates up to 415 passengers, and reaches a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

Train No. 7055 departs Urgench Airport at 8:40 AM and arrives at the Urgench railway station at 8:59 AM. Following a three-minute stop, it departs at 9:02 AM for Khiva, arriving at 9:22 AM.

The train completes the 45.9-kilometer journey between Urgench Airport and Khiva in 47 minutes, with the 33-kilometer segment between the Urgench and Khiva railway stations taking 20 minutes.

In the reverse direction, train No. 7058 departs Khiva at 9:00 PM and arrives at the Urgench station at 9:20 PM. It departs at 9:23 PM toward the airport, arriving at 9:42 PM, bringing total travel time to 42 minutes.

Fares are set at 25,000 soums for adults and 14,000 soums for children.

The new train was presented to the President of Uzbekistan in August. The 225 billion soum initiative marks the first project in the country to extend a railway line directly to an airport.

Trolleybus services also operate between Khiva and Urgench. Simultaneously with the new railway line, Uzbekistan's first toll road was opened, with travel costs ranging from 20,000 to 40,000 soums.

Similar CR200J electric trains are planned for launch between Tashkent and Andijan.
