Japan Deports Two Uzbek Nationals Over Visa Overstay

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Japan has deported two citizens of Uzbekistan who were found to be staying in the country illegally after the expiration of their visas, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan said on 15 May.

According to Japan’s Immigration Services Agency, both individuals entered Japan on student visas but remained in the country after the permitted period of stay had ended. They were subsequently detained by Japanese authorities.

The diplomatic mission emphasized that the “student” residency status is strictly intended for educational purposes and cannot be used for employment or any other income-generating activities. Japanese authorities apply strict measures in cases of violations, including detention, placement in immigration centers, and deportation.

It was noted that Japanese authorities share information on immigration violators with relevant Uzbek authorities, which may lead to additional measures upon their return to Uzbekistan.

The embassy also urged Uzbek citizens to exercise caution and avoid offers related to illegal employment in Japan. It separately clarified that the widespread belief that individuals can remain in Japan for an extended period or obtain work by applying for refugee status is incorrect. In cases where such applications are rejected, forced deportation measures may be applied, including detention in immigration facilities and removal from the country.

The embassy further warned that providing false information or using fraudulent schemes when submitting such applications may result in serious legal consequences under Japanese law.
