Georgia Seeks to Strengthen Ties With Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Georgia intends to further strengthen political and trade-economic relations with Central Asian countries, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a government meeting.

According to him, cooperation with the countries of the region has particular political and economic importance for Georgia.

Kobakhidze noted that Georgia plays an important connecting role by providing seven countries with access to the Black Sea and onward links to Western markets.

The prime minister said the government would continue efforts to further develop relations with Central Asian countries and strengthen their political and economic components.

Summarising international contacts in 2026, Kobakhidze recalled that he visited Kazakhstan in June for an official visit, following which the sides established a strategic partnership.

He also noted that a strategic level of relations was established between Georgia and Uzbekistan during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Tbilisi.

In addition, the Georgian prime minister made official visits to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in June, where a number of bilateral agreements were signed.

In July, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited Georgia. Following the visit, Tbilisi and Ashgabat signed a package of documents aimed at expanding cooperation in various areas.
