Japan Deports Two Uzbek Citizens for Illegal Stay

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Japan’s Immigration Services Agency has deported two Uzbek citizens who were illegally staying in the country, the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan said.

According to the embassy, both deported citizens entered Japan on student visas but remained in the country after their visas expired. They were subsequently detained by Japanese authorities.

The embassy stressed that a student visa is intended solely for education and cannot be used as a means of earning income.

The diplomatic mission said that people found to be staying illegally or working without authorization face strict measures, including detention and arrest by police, placement in an immigration detention center and subsequent deportation.

The Japanese government provides information on such violations to the Uzbek government. As a result, deported individuals may face relevant measures after returning to Uzbekistan. The embassy urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and not to trust offers of illegal employment in Japan.

The embassy also addressed a widespread misconception that applying for refugee status in Japan allows applicants to remain in the country for a long period or work there.

According to the diplomatic mission, submitting such an application for these purposes is not permitted. If an application for refugee status is rejected, the applicant may be placed in an immigration detention center or deported.

Providing false information or using fraudulent methods when submitting such an application may result in serious legal consequences, according to the embassy.
