IT Park Uzbekistan, HKSTP Sign Innovation Partnership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — IT Park Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) during an official visit to Hong Kong, paving the way for cooperation in innovation, scientific research, technology commercialization and startup support.

The memorandum was signed during a meeting attended by Farhod Ibragimov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of IT Park Uzbekistan, Chief Executive Officer Azamat Karamatov and HKSTP's leadership.

The agreement establishes a long-term partnership between the innovation ecosystems of Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.

Priority areas of cooperation include entrepreneurship development, startup creation and scaling, commercialization of scientific research, the exchange of expertise in building research infrastructure and support for technology companies seeking to enter international markets.

During the meeting, HKSTP representatives presented the development model of one of Asia's largest technology clusters.

According to the corporation, the park is home to more than 2,400 technology companies, around 17,000 research and development professionals and over 25,000 participants in its innovation ecosystem. It has produced 13 unicorn companies. HKSTP's venture fund, valued at HK$2.4 billion, has financed more than 150 projects, while more than HK$200 million has been invested in establishing specialized laboratories.

The IT Park Uzbekistan delegation presented the development of Uzbekistan's technology ecosystem. Officials said the park has more than 3,700 resident companies, operates in every region of the country and offers tax incentives for technology businesses that have been extended until 2040. The delegation also outlined government measures to support digital transformation, venture capital development and IT services exports.

The two sides discussed technology transfer mechanisms, entrepreneurship training, startup acceleration, cooperation between universities and industry, and attracting investment into scientific research. Particular attention was given to sharing experience in research commercialization and the development of innovation infrastructure.

Artificial intelligence was identified as one of the key areas for future cooperation. Discussions covered AI infrastructure, computing capacity for training models, the development of the AI Factory concept, industry regulation, the use of open data and specialist training.

Representatives of IT Park Uzbekistan reaffirmed their intention to develop Uzbekistan as a regional artificial intelligence hub linking the markets of Asia and Europe.

Following the official meeting, the delegation explored technologies developed by HKSTP resident companies, including solutions in artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous technologies, digital healthcare, the industrial internet of things, telecommunications and renewable energy.

At the conclusion of the visit, IT Park Uzbekistan invited HKSTP's leadership and resident companies to participate in ICT Week Uzbekistan, which will be held in September 2026. Representatives of the Hong Kong side expressed interest in attending and said they would consider forming a delegation after receiving an official invitation.

The two sides also agreed to establish joint working groups, strengthen cooperation between research centers and continue collaboration in artificial intelligence, DeepTech, technology commercialization and support for innovative companies.
