Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement authorities in Tashkent region intercepted an attempt to smuggle gold items worth 133 million soums, which were hidden inside baby diapers, the press service of the regional Customs Committee reported.
The incident occurred at the “Yallama” customs checkpoint. During an inspection of a passenger’s bag, officers found a package of diapers containing two gold items with a total weight of 111 grams.
Their preliminary estimated value is approximately 133 million soums. The confiscated items have been handed over to the competent authorities.
Authorities are currently investigating the origin of the precious metals and possible accomplices in the illegal scheme.
The agency reminded that individuals are allowed to export undeclared gold jewelry weighing up to 65 grams and silver items up to 200 grams.
