“Gastronomic Map of Uzbekistan” Expedition Introduces International Experts to Regional Cuisine

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 18 to 25 May 2026, Uzbekistan hosted an international gastronomic expedition titled “Gastronomic Map of Uzbekistan,” organized with the support of the Committee for Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National PR Center. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Institute of Gastronomy of Siberian Federal University (Russia) and the AB Group restaurant holding.

The initiative aims to promote the tourism potential of Uzbekistan’s regions, raise international awareness of national cuisine, and develop gastronomic tourism as a key segment of the industry.

Regional culinary exploration

As part of the expedition, a delegation of researchers, culinary experts, and media representatives visited Tashkent, Fergana, Margilan, Kokand, Rishtan, Chust, and Namangan. Participants explored regional culinary traditions, local products, and family recipes passed down through generations.

Special attention was given to authentic Uzbek dishes. Experts not only studied preparation techniques but also participated in masterclasses featuring lagman, seven types of pilaf, various kinds of samsa, mastava, mashkhurda, and other traditional dishes.

Focus on the Fergana Valley

A central part of the program was dedicated to the culinary culture of the Fergana Valley, including its markets, craft traditions, and local food practices that reflect the region’s cultural identity.

Project outcomes and promotion

The expedition resulted in the production of photo and video materials, documentary reports, interviews, and analytical studies. These materials will be used to further promote Uzbek cuisine and tourism potential in international markets, particularly in Russia.

Officials noted that gastronomic tourism is becoming an increasingly important factor in enhancing a country’s global attractiveness.

Such initiatives contribute to shaping Uzbekistan’s image as a tourism destination where visitors can experience not only rich historical and cultural heritage but also a distinctive national cuisine that reflects the country’s traditions and lifestyle.
