UEFA, AFC, CONCACAF Threaten FIFA With Rival Tournaments

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) are considering creating alternative international tournaments if FIFA President Gianni Infantino decides to stay in office and run for a fourth term, The Times reported.

According to the publication, the three confederations intend to seek Infantino's departure from office and have prepared several action scenarios if he decides to run again in the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March.

Possible measures being considered include establishing alternative competitions under the auspices of the confederations. In addition, Infantino's opponents could boycott FIFA council meetings and refuse to approve the organization's decisions.

The Times noted that the catalyst for growing criticism of the FIFA head was his proposal to sell part of the World Cup commercial rights to private investors. Infantino later abandoned the initiative.
