Former Uzbek Tax Committee Deputy Chief Gets 8 Years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Shaykhantakhur District Criminal Court has sentenced former first deputy chairman of Uzbekistan’s Tax Committee Mubin Mirzayev to eight years and two months in prison. The court also barred him from exercising a specified right for three years.

Mirzayev, born in 1969, was found guilty under Article 168, Part 4, Clause “a” of the Criminal Code of misappropriating or embezzling property belonging to others on an especially large scale; Article 205, Part 2, Clause “a” of abuse of official authority resulting in especially large damage; and Article 208 of inaction by an authority.

Eight other people were tried alongside Mirzayev. The court found the other defendants guilty under the relevant parts and clauses of the Criminal Code, including provisions concerning violations of personal data legislation, tax or fee evasion, violations of trade or service regulations, and the production, counterfeiting, sale or use of documents, stamps, seals and forms.

They were sentenced to prison terms ranging from four to nine years.

The verdict also provides for recovery of the damage caused. The sentences are calculated from the date the defendants were placed in pretrial detention.

The presiding judge explained the contents of the verdict to the parties, as well as the procedure and deadlines for appealing it.

Mubin Mirzayev, first deputy chairman of Uzbekistan’s Tax Committee, was dismissed from his post in January 2026 for “negligence and irresponsibility.”
